The ultimate weapon for me. It’s incredible how different this shoe could be according on the laces. Leave it soft to climb steep and roofs or tie it up to climb on small cripy footholds. I first took the shoe on and it perfectly fits to my feet.

The Booster:

I had a really hard time to get this shoe working for me. The Mago was easy, get in and climb. This shoe is a Monster, had a lot of experience in pain the first couple of times I was climbing with it. But since it was restrained it’s the most amazing allround shoe for me. Ok, except slabs. Massive downturns are not a good deal with slabs. Anyway, this shoe is my little toy for everything.

Last but not Least, the Instinct:

First I thought this shoe is a side product to fill the catalogue because of the design. Not very attractive in my eyes. But since I had the shoe and went climbing I was really surprised. The downturn is very different and more aggressive than the one of the other two models. The hook is solide and fits better to my heel. I like it most for bouldering, could not believe how precise to stay on small foot holds. Crazy shoe and I’m psyched to get the slipper version.

Last but not least I was routesetting with Korni Obleitner at the Outdoor Trade-fare Friedrichshafen for the Final Rockshow Event. Was a lot of fun and a good event!

We’re still in Hueco and get stucked in snow two days ago. The snow came a few days to late for christmas but it was a more familiar feeling to celebrate the new years change with snow. It’s just bad to climb now. The temps are pretty low, the approach is icy and snow is melting into the boulders. We decided to do another restday to get the skin bulletproof again.

Der letzte Gedanke, bevor sich meine Augen vor dem Schlaf schließen, und der erste Gedanke nach dem zwar ständig wechselnden, jedoch nicht weniger nervig werdenden Weckergeräusch, kreist immer wieder um die selben 38 Züge.

Seit dem Herbst 2009 brennen sich diese 38 Züge in meinem Kopf ein. Kaum präsentierte sich mir eine Lösung, war diese beim nächsten Versuch schier unkletterbar.

Unfit, Selbstzweifelnd, womöglich doch zu sauschwer! Mein eigenes Gewissen quält mich mit aufdringlichen Fragen: Warum bleibst du schon wieder bei diesem Projekt sitzen, wenn ein paar Meter weiter viele andere verlockende Routen auf dich warten? Deren Machbarkeit wurde schon bewiesen, warum genau diese Line und warum schon wieder? Was treibt dich an um dieses Projekt so lange zu probieren? Was willst du dir oder gar jemand anderen beweisen? Kannst du das überhaupt?

Gute 30 Meter stehen am Programm. Auf den ersten Metern leichte Spielerei wo meine Finger mehr kalt als warm werden. Ein No-Hand-Rest nach zehn Metern in dem ich mich dann warm zu kriegen versuche. Da günstig für mich jedoch ungünstig für die Sicherer, sich kein einziger Sonnenstrahl mehr in die Wand verirrt.

Dann warten die 38 Züge zu denen ich schon etliche Male respektvoll empor blickte. Die nächsten zehn Meter pumpen meine Boulder-Unterarme, auf großen Griffen mit weiten Zügen in athletischer Kletterei, dezent ins Endlose auf. Ehe ich wieder zu Luft komme bin ich schon in den ersten zwei schweren Zügen verreckt. Freude macht sich trotzdem breit, immerhin hab ich kapiert wie ich meinen Kadaver durch diese leistige Stelle manövriere.

Blöderweise liegt die Crux erst kurz vor dem Top. Jeder einzelne der letzten fünf Züge stellt sich im Durchstieg als noch schwerer dar, als der ihm vorhergehende. Meine Karten stehen schlecht: keine Ausdauer und sehr erfolgreich im fallen beim letzten Zug.

Hier spielen Ehrgeiz und Selbstzweifel ein tödliches Spiel. Wie oft habe ich mich dabei gefragt wer von zwei wohl gewinnen mag?

Bevor ich überhaupt zum Zug komme, hat das Projektl schon den sweeten Namen „Merikah“  getauft, eingebettet zwischen Sanli und Raica im Sektor REEF. Eingebohrt von einem guten Freund der auf den Namen Dilduardo hört und sich schon beizeiten mit Bohrmaschine und Haken verewigt hat.

Glücklicherweise war ich von der wirren Anordnung der Griffe mehr begeistert als der Meister himself.

Nach intensiven Griff und Tritt dechiffrieren hatte ich nach zwei Herbsten endlich meine Lösung. Jetzt war es Zeit für meine ersten, ernsthaften Versuche.Mittlerweile spazierte ich die Leisten bis zur Schlüsselstelle hinauf.

Bringt aber nix, wennst trotzdem beim ersten Zug in der Crux fällst, Punkt aus! Mehr Power gehört her! Gesagt getan! Beim nächsten Versuch fliege ich erst beim Zug zum vorletzten Griff, und zwar die halbe Wand runter.

Damn it! So soll es mir dann noch drei Mal ergehen, weil ich den letzten Haken nicht mehr klinken kann. Der Selbstzweifel gewinnt gegenüber dem Ehrgeiz wieder die Oberhand.

Eine Woche später stehe ich zur selben Zeit wieder am selben Fleck. Mitten in der Wand am No-Hand-Rest und versuch meine Finger zu wärmen. Nach 37 Zügen spüre ich das erste Mal den Top Griff unter meinen halb verfrorenen Fingerkuppen in einem Durchstieg Versuch. So schnell wie die Freude da war, so schnell war sie auch wieder weg.

Macht nix war der erste Versuch. Eine Stunde später bin ich erneut beim letzten Zug angelangt, weit weg höre ich meine Freundin schreien und anfeuern. Untergriffschuppe nachsortieren, fokussieren, schnappen und Stille. Bevor ich es fassen kann, hängt das Seil im Umlenker. So schnell kann es gehen. Meine bis Dato schwerste Route.  All das Herzblut, all die Mühen, die Geduld meiner Freundin und den anderen Sichereren hat sich Schluss endlich gelohnt. Der Ehrgeiz hat die schwerste Schlacht gewonnen, geiles Gefühl!

The urban style pics are around the place where the gym is located. Nice neighborhood what?

I checked two flights for 50 € each to Bukarest. We got ripped of by the first man who saw us coming out of the arrival. It was a Taxi driver who swear by his mother that he will be the most cheapest option to go to the train station. We paid 80 Lei, like 20 € both, like way to much, like the metro is 1,50 €.

We want to go to Brasov. A nice town in the middle of Romania. It’s batland, I mean it’s in Transilvania just 30 min by car away from Dracula’s Castle. We had full moon, perfect … as far as I now the werewolfes are out on full moon battling against vampires. So best time to go there, the monsters are busy and tourist attraction is garantied!

But things went another way. We survived te train ride … main doors were opened during the three hours from Bukarest to Brasov, was close to Austrian trains. In Brasov we got picked up by Bogdan, a friend who runs the climbing gym there. He’s riding a Mercedes SUV, that’s my style! next day was route setting from 10am until 12pm for 20 boulders. 4 men + 4 women qualifications, 4 men semifinals and 4 men + 4 women finals. Flo had some serious near-death experiences with the ladder. I had some safe distance when he crashed down for a couple of times. We felt into sleep before we could even hear the werewolfes, fuck.

Next day qualification day means another day in the gym until midnight and no werewofes. Sunday was the day of the finals and the guys looked really tired. The were parting the whole night long without us routesetters. They better invite us the next time before we modify the routes slightly to their disadvantages.

But it went all good after another day in the gym. The ladys and boys were motivated as hell and they rocked the hose. Did I mention that the gym is located in between an old munition factory? Looks crazy. Pictures will come soon!

That’s all we saw from Romania. Three days of gym climbing and a hell of a ride from Brasov to Bukarest by Minibus. Bu I will go there again to see more of of it soon!

DeWalt DC845KB Impact Driver

I have got a new tool to play with and i have tested it for sure. The DeWalt DC845KB Cordless Impact Driver 12V!

I had some weird pain in climbing routesetting because of some typist’s cramp injury on my left wrist since last march. It was getting more worst when I was setting a lot of routes last fall and this winter. I decided to check an impact wrench to force healing my wrist. It’s still not a good feeling every time I pull on the Allen Key and with the impact driver I for sure feel nothing at all.

So this was the first reason I bought it and the second is I’m much faster now!

What about performance? It’s loud 90dB … but I’m not recognizing it, it’s just a few seconds every time and not louder than driving an old car. Two battery packs were included. I can set a whole day bouder routes with one pack or about 6 to 8 routes depending on their length. Batteries are fully loaded in about 20 minutes, nice.

I bought the lightest model with the 12V motor. They have much stronger ones but I was really surprised that this thing can deal with a friends 18V Makita. The mass is 1,7kg. I can easily hang it on my harnest with the attached clip when I set through the rope.

For me it was a very good investment. My wrist is getting better and I can use the battery packs to run my CableCam for filming too.
